Case study: Dignity in the wake of an earthquake in Syria
‘I received a pack of sanitary products after the earthquake. It contained items I already use myself, so it was helpful.’ Tala*, Syria
Tala* lives in Syria with her husband and their children. They were all at home in bed when the first shockwave of the earthquake hit. Tala quickly gathered her children and ran outside to the street. They had to leave their home as it was unsafe for them to stay as the shockwaves continued.
Tala had no sanitary products or means of keeping clean during and after the earthquake. Thankfully, with support from a CAFOD-funded local organisation, who were distributing essential items to families affected by the earthquake, she accessed the items she needed.
‘We were given canned food, a hygiene kit and clothing,’ said Tala. ‘The timing was very good because most of the time we were unable to return to the house during the earthquake period.’
