Real impact in São Paulo, Brazil
Monica lives in São Paulo with her husband and daughter. She grew up in the favelas on the city's outskirts, in overcrowded housing lacking basic infrastructure. Seeking better employment, they moved to the city centre.
Unable to find affordable housing, Monica's family moved into an abandoned hotel but faced eviction by the local government. That's when they started working with CAFOD-funded local partner Semeando to learn about their rights to a safe home.
"When I came here, my life completely changed. Living here has offered me greater opportunities to work and study," Monica said.
Monica campaigned with Semeando against eviction and eventually secured government funding to convert the hotel into sustainable social housing for over 176 families! Their new home includes green spaces and recycling points—a dignified, sustainable place to call home.
