- Help vulnerable children make new friends and come to terms with all they have experienced during war – violence and fear and the deaths of loved ones.
Case study: Supporting children in fulfilling their potential in DRC
“I’m studying teaching, but when I go to the university, I would love to study medicine" Sagesse, 15, Democratic Republic of Congo
Sagesse’s favourite subjects at school are biology and chemistry. Her dream is to become a doctor.
Her mother, Bernadette, has worked hard to keep her in school. Bernadette fled her home village after it was set on fire by the rebels, and everything was lost. She walked for days until she arrived in Goma to rebuild her life for her family.
With support from CAFOD’s local experts, Bernadette started to grow mushrooms and sell them to pay for Sagesse’s school fees.
Now, Sagesse has the opportunity to receive an education and fulfil her dream of becoming a doctor so she can help others. Thanks to this gift, we are giving other children, like Sagesse, the opportunity to reach their potential.
