Case study: Water in times of crisis
'Our local experts were working tirelessly to support the search and rescue operation, as well as making sure people had water, hot meals, warm clothing and somewhere safe to go.' Hombeline, CAFOD’s Syria Crisis Response Programme Manager
Access to clean water following a disaster has always been essential – to drink, wash and cook with. Now that emergencies are becoming more frequent, we need to act urgently when a crisis hits.
When the earthquakes hit Türkiye and Syria in February 2023, Hombeline, who runs CAFOD’s Syria Crisis Response, saw the devasting impact on families affected by the disaster. People were left homeless and unable to access even the basic necessities.
With support from CAFOD and through the work of our local experts, vulnerable people were able to access clean water and other essentials. This gift can help us continue to reach people immediately after an emergency has hit.
This gift is part of our Emergency fund.
