Case study: Food in time of crisis
'I am really pleased now I have moved out of trouble. My children and I feel safe here now.' Nyanguet, South Sudan
Nyanguet is a mother to 5 children and lives in South Sudan. When her village came under attack and was burned down, she hid in the bushes with her husband and children for several days without food. Determined to protect her family, she then travelled across the country to Lakes State with her family to find refuge.
Although she found safety, Nyanguet faced yet another challenge: hunger. After months of drought, her chances of finding enough food in her new home were extremely low.
With the support of CAFOD’s local expert, Nyanguet received emergency food as well as farm tools and seeds to plant on a piece of land given to her by her host community.
Access to food will always be a challenge in times of emergency. This charity gift can give hope to families, like Nyanguet’s, whose lives have been turned upside down – with homes destroyed, livelihoods lost, and communities torn apart. It will mean we are ready to help a family in great need during an emergency.
