Case study: Keeping babies safe
“Without receiving help, I don’t know how I would have started up again and supported my children”
Mariam, 43, and her five children live in Sudan. When heavy rainfall in her town caused sudden flooding, there was no time to rescue any belongings. Her house, belongings and livelihood were destroyed.
Mariam and her children fled to the shelter of relatives who lived on higher ground, but there simply wasn’t enough room for them to stay for long and they didn’t have enough mosquito nets to protect them from malaria.
Mariam and her family were among thousands left in desperate need after the floods. Thanks to CAFOD, Mariam received support to rebuild their lives, including life-saving nets to protect her and her children. This gift will keep children like Mariam’s safe from malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases in times of emergency.
