Case study: Food relief after Nepal earthquake
"It was the worst earthquake I have ever experienced. People are in dire need." Father Pius Perumana SJ, Director of Caritas Nepal
Saturday 25 April 2015 was a day like any other in Kathmandu, Nepal. Then at 12:50pm a 7.9 magnitude earthquake – the largest for 80 years – hit Nepal with devastating force. Buildings collapsed, many were killed and tens of thousands of families were made homeless in an instant. With no shelter and disruptions to both food and water supplies, the situation was dire. Disasters like these need urgent emergency response. In the days and weeks after the earthquake, CAFOD's local partners where on the ground helping thousands of homeless families in their time of need. They provided clean, reliable supplies of drinking water, emergency food relief and tents and blankets for vital shelter. This gift will give hope to families whose lives are turned upside down when the next disaster strikes.
