Case study: A chance to go to school
“The school is beautiful, we’re very proud of it. Now we have proper classrooms and chairs and things it’s less stressful and easier to learn”. Faizah, Sudan
Faizah lives in a remote village in central Sudan. Her school was made of makeshift materials. There was no roof so if it rained pupils and teachers got wet. Lessons often occurred simply under a tree. There were no seats and stationery and books were hard to come by.
Since then, their school has been rebuilt. CAFOD and their local experts have worked to provide chairs, stationery, books – everything the students and teachers need to teach and learn effectively.
In addition, the students have started to take part in national exams with an excellent pass rate. A formal education brings with it so many opportunities that these children simply wouldn’t have had.
