World Gifts – Julie Etchingham

ITV News at Ten presenter and reporter Julie Etchingham, who is a CAFOD ambassador, recently visited Lebanon and saw some of our work in action. She visited a school in Mount Lebanon where CAFOD partners have helped get Syrian refugee children into school and pay for their transport to and from school, their uniforms and stationery. As Julie emphasises in the video below, this really does provide children who have been through so much with “the best start” in life. Julie suggests buying a School starter pack, but there are lots of gifts to choose from, including Help a refugee child which will mean we can change the lives of those who have been forced to leave their homes.  ...

Our Special extras are handpicked gifts which raise income for CAFOD's unrestricted and general fund, meaning that we can use this money wherever it is needed most. In La Palma, El Salvador, 20 artisan painters and carpenters are supporting their families by selling handmade triptychs and crosses.Lázaro and his family are painters who hand finish the colourful ornaments which now decorate homes and churches across England and Wales.The sale of these triptychs and crosses through CAFOD provides a regular income for people in La Palma, including single mothers who depend on this work as a way of supporting their children. Charity emergency gifts

When disaster strikes, World Gifts from our Emergency, Conflict and Rehabilitation Fund can make a life-saving difference to families in urgent need. As well as providing essentials like water, food and shelter in the aftermath of an earthquake, hurricane or flood, CAFOD will also be there for the long term, supporting communities to get back on their feet after the crisis. Charity Gifts of education and skills training

World Gifts from our Education and Skills Training Fund will give people of all ages the chance to learn, fulfill their potential and work towards a brighter, more secure future. Sport, especially football, is a fantastic way to bring children together. In Peixinhos, Brazil, domestic and gang violence are common and often caused by drugs, unemployment and lack of access to quality education. Charity gifts of water

Clean safe water is in short supply in some of the world's poorest communities. World Gifts from our Water Fund directly provide developing communities with this life-saving essential. We'll raise a glass to that! Josefa and her eight young children live in a small village in Guatemala. Before there was a water supply in the village, Josefa and her children had to make four trips every day to collect water. Each trip took half an hour and carrying heavy containers of water was exhausting, especially for the children.
