Showing you care in lockdown

In the UK we're still getting used to the idea of lockdown. In the last couple of weeks our lives have changed so much, and for many of us, it's taking some getting used to. One of the things people are struggling with is not being able to celebrate things with their loved ones. Most people were unable to see their mum on Mother's Day and the longer this goes on the more celebrations we are missing. One way of reaching out to our loved ones, while helping those living in poverty across the world, is to choose a World Gifts ecard. The card goes straight to their inbox and can be personalised with your own message so your loved...

CAFOD World Gifts and Coronavirus

CAFOD World Gifts go towards five funds within CAFOD’s work. As our generous supporters, we wanted to update you on how Covid-19 might be affecting our work.  Coronavirus has now spread to every continent except Antarctica, with confirmed cases in several African, Asian and Latin American countries where CAFOD works. As of 14 March, the World Health Organization confirmed that there have been more than 149,000 cases of COVID-19 worldwide, causing more than 5,500 deaths.  Our programmes around the world are run, managed and staffed by people who live amongst and are close to the communities they support. Every context will be different, but at this point we need to put the safety of all our staff, and the local aid teams on the ground, first.  The...

Emergency Gifts

In the light of Cyclone Idai, which has recently caused huge damage to Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi I've been looking at our emergency World Gifts. It's estimated that 2.6 million people are in need of vital humanitarian aid in the coming days and weeks ahead.  CAFOD partners are already on the ground working to provide people with food, such as rice and beans, and hygiene kits. Thanks to regular gifts to our Emergency Response Team and purchases of gifts such as below we've been able to take immediate action. We've pledged an initial £150,000 until we can raise additional funds. If you've been touched by Cyclone Idai, or want to contribute to our emergency response through World Gifts, think about buying one of the...

World Gifts – Julie Etchingham

ITV News at Ten presenter and reporter Julie Etchingham, who is a CAFOD ambassador, recently visited Lebanon and saw some of our work in action. She visited a school in Mount Lebanon where CAFOD partners have helped get Syrian refugee children into school and pay for their transport to and from school, their uniforms and stationery. As Julie emphasises in the video below, this really does provide children who have been through so much with “the best start” in life. Julie suggests buying a School starter pack, but there are lots of gifts to choose from, including Help a refugee child which will mean we can change the lives of those who have been forced to leave their homes.  ...
