New world gift: Protecting clean water
Each week we'll feature one of our new World Gifts from the 2016 range and show the difference that this gift can make to families living in poverty around the world.
As students in England and Wales settle into a new school year, World Gifts are helping students in Peru to play a key role in preserving their environment with innovative Water testing kits.
Rural villages like Unocolla in the Peruvian highlands rely on lakes for drinking water and irrigation. However these lakes are incredibly vulnerable to pollution. To maintain the quality of the water in local Lake Chacas, students have set up a Environmental Monitoring Committee at their school as well as a science club.
With CAFOD's support, the students learn about the importance of the lake water and protecting the environment. They play an active role in preserving this resource by monitoring the water each month, using kits provided through World Gifts.
The gift of a Water testing kit, along with the hard work of the students, mean that communities can continue to depend on access to clean, safe water and that this precious resource is protected for the future.
